Heard the news of Mr. Nimoy's passing while at work, and good thing no one pays attention to me there because I was crying behind my computer. It's been a running joke in my house that by the time I could afford to go to a Star Trek convention they'd all die of old age - and looks like the universe had the last laugh on that one. At the world's expense.

I suppose I'm a new fan in the sense that I'm only 20, and was exposed to Star Trek in my early teens (by my mom, who thought it'd be a good joke - not realizing her daughter would make it one of her three obsessions in life HAH). That being said, the Original Series was my first experience aboard the Enterprise, and of course I fell in love with the crew. I'm not going to lie, I will always have a soft spot for Bones. And I am just barely (After YEARS) coming to terms with the fact that I was born too late to see DeForest Kelley, and now I carry an immense... guilt? I suppose that's as close of a term as I can think of for the feeling of missed opportunity I have after Mr. Nimoy has left us. My life has overlapped - by mere chance - with the timeline of one of Science Fiction's greatest idols, a hero of my childhood, and I have missed him.

So as you can see, it's been a depressing day - of course not just for me, but for the world. I have the greatest of sympathies for his family at this time. So when I came onto Star Trek Online today and visited Vulcan, it brought tears to my eyes to see this. A ring of players surrounding the fountain on Vulcan, some at attention, some saluting, and most revering the Vulcan Salute. Even a few Fleets showed up en masse, which was neat. They went around in a circle, saying their favorite quotes and scenes and it was just a sight that warmed my heart.

My captain, Sprint, can be seen towards the center of this screenshot, with the Intelligence uniform (blue belt). I took tons of screenshots, and they now sit in a folder on my desktop with the date so that I can always look back. I think I'll draw this.

Feather Array

I've started getting out of my slump again. In the meantime, I've been cleaning out my nightstand, and in my drawer of 'tools', I didn't realize just how many feathers I've been collecting :XD: I've become so fond of the big blue feather in this picture that most of the others have just kinda been hanging out in the drawer. They really need more love :P
I don't entirely remember when and where I got all of them, but regardless, I don't want to get rid of a single one.

This is also the first and only foot photo you're getting of me. No I am not going to take my sock off (trust me, my stripey socks are a lot more pleasant to look at than my borderline-albino feet) and I am going to ignore anyone who tries to ask me to post more foot photos. I only have it in there 1.) to give a fun size comparison of the feathers, 2.) to cover the corner of the desk in an aesthetically pleasing way, 3.) to help hold myself up while I took the photo since I was not only standing on my chair, but also on top of a few books just to get the right angle :XD:

Also, the creepy eye thing in the desk cup is a lifesaver :XD: I've become addicted to Wintergreen mints again, lord help us all.

From left to right:

Crow feathers: While the broader one isn't quite as tickly as the narrow one - which is killer between toes - it's still a very nice-looking plume, and quite soft.

Brown Pelican feather: When I first found it, I thought it was an eagle feather but I realized after a Google search that I was wrong :XD: It's a very stiff feather, and not really one I use for tickling, since 1.) even on my feet it doesn't get much of a response, and 2.) I really don't want to mess it up.

Small fluffy white feathers: These are leftovers from an ambitious Halloween project that kinda turned into a flop. I wanted to make angel wings from scratch and ordered a whole bag of these fluffy feathers, but the cardboard I used kept bending in the middle and the wings kept whacking people  I gave most of the leftover feathers to people in my dorm who wanted to use them, but I kept three of them. They actually remind me quite a bit of Kenisime's feathers, especially the one on the right.

Yellow and Red: I don't at all remember where I got them but hey, they're pretty and fluffy and very tickly :D

White ostrich feather: This poor beat-up feather was one that I ordered when I first began realizing my pteronophilia. It was definitely a good friend to me during college when my roommates weren't around :giggle: But regardless of how careful I tried to be with it, the quill just wore down and it has to wear a bandage now. But I just can't bring myself to part with it.

Purple feathers: All seven of them came from a cheap masquerade mask I got for Halloween one year. It looked terribly tacky with the feathers attached but I knew I wanted to keep them, so I just pulled them off :XD: They're delightfully soft and I'm highly considering making a sort of device that would be able to utilize them all at once, or even to string through toes

Giant blue feathers: My favorite feathers, not just because they're my favorite color but also because they're silky-soft and cover a lot of surface area. =P Both of them came off of a Venetian-style mask which I may or may not have gotten solely for the purpose of owning those beautiful plumes.
