The Ghost Trails

I really had no intention of shooting star trails on this occasion. The morning was spent shooting Proxy Falls in The Willamette National Forest. I decided to camp along the McKenzie River after. The hours of camping solo in this expansive landscape would have passed much quicker had I not submerged my iPod in Proxy Creek earlier in the day. :shakefist: I spent my time hiking the river trail watching people on kayaks float downstream. As the sun was setting I set up my gear to shoot trails through a window in the forest. Little did I know until after but there were these wisps of clouds passing overhead while my Shutterboss was doing it's thing. Upon completion of my run of shots, I reviewed the images. The four minute exposures had these streaks of clouds passing through nearly every shot. I wasn't sure how any of my results would translate into a final image. Here you have the results. A completely grayed out sky thanks to the clouds with the ghosts of the stars beyond. I really kind of like this. Not sure anyone else will though.

Twenty seven 240 second exposures. Four dark exposures were added to the mix for noise reduction.
Processed in Startrails, Lightroom, & Elements.
Canon 60D
24mm
f4
240 second exposures
400 ISO

On a lighter note, said iPod was packed in rice & now works fine. :phew: I can't live without my iPod people. :D
