Sierra Leone's Last Hunslet

The Sierra Leone Railway (SLR), the world's only national railway built entirely on the 2'6" gauge, had a long history of using Hunslet 2-6-2 tank engines. After the railway closed in 1974, the last Hunslet, 1954-vintage No. 85, was shipped to Britain along with some passenger carriages to run on the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway in Wales. It was parked on a British Railways FLATROL flatcar when I visited the National Railway Museum's Locomotion Museum, but it is about to leave Shildon, hopefully to return to traffic on the WLLR. Its cousin Russell, the only surviving steam locomotive of the original Welsh Highland Railway (WHR), is now running on the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway (WHHR) in Porthmadog.

Level Crossing near Shildon Coal Drops

This level crossing near the overgrown Stockton and Darlington Railway (S&DR) coal drops at Shildon, now part of the National Railway Museum's Locomotion Museum, is normally set with the gates closed to trains and open to pedestrians, but sometimes the gates are set the other way to let trains enter or exit the museum grounds.

I have been attempting to get a photo of the smaller eagle on the left for several weeks. I did get one, and I did post it. This morning however I waltzed outside to pick up my daily Tampa Times and up on the overly ornate house to my left sat two eagles. As you can see one is clearly larger than the other. I think it's not the greatest photo in the world but it's pretty cool as far as I'm concerned. It is my first time capturing two eagles on one perch. I was amazed! I hope you enjoy the view as much as I did.
