K1-R4 could not understand her removal from the nanite injection trials. And she couldn't understand it either. How could they do this to a person? It's one thing to think about how alone and miserable a single human being is in this world. It's another thing to actually experience it. To become something larger, just for a few minutes. Only to be thrown back into one's ridiculous mortal shell again. It's not like she didn't try to get back. First, she waited. Then she asked, begged to be included again. When she tried to force her way bak in she was suspended from the Intravenus Project altogether. She was transferred off site to cool down, get psychological treatment. Only a period of grace before they would throw her out completely, she was sure of it.

One day, K1-R4 head someone knocking on the door of her apartment. She was in the middle of a meditation, so it took a while for her to notice. When she opened her door, whoever was there was already gone. But they left something for her. An unremarkable package with no sender address on it. Who even knew that she was here?

She took the package inside an opened it. It contained a tangled web of metals connecting tiny metal orbs. On her touch they started to radiate a soft, pulsing blue light. She heard rumors about this kind of thing, errant nanite colonies growing on artifacts of exotic technology. Why would someone send her this? The only other thing in the package was a single sheet of continuous paper. Part of an experimental report, some parts redacted, some parts highlighted with a yellow marker. She couldn't make much of it, except that it was dissolved in cold water.That didn't make sense - how could metal dissolve in water?

On the back of the paper there was a handwritten note.

DON'T YOU WANT TO BECOME WHOLE AGAIN?

What did have K1-R4 to loose? She prepared a cold bath. After a long gaze into the blue light, she submerged herself completely in the water, taking the metal ball with her. First, there was no reaction. Then things started happening. The metal actual dissolved, tinting the water. The metal orbs entered K1-R4's body, their blue light visible through her skin. She could feel the old connections being reactivated, it was all she hoped for. Soon she would be reunited - but with whom? Was this a present from PRIA, the Project AI, wanting her back, too?

Her vision blurred as the light ascended towards her brain. Someone would come for her.

She stumbled.

Fell down on the floor of her bathroom.

Please come for me.

Anyone.

Please.

Her apartment door bursting open was the last thing K1-R4 noticed. Silhouettes. Grabbing her. Then everything went black.
